What is Mircette?

Ethinyl Estradiol and Desogestrel has a combination of several female hormones which prevent ovulation. This drug caused a number of changes in the uterine lining and cervical mucus, which makes it a lot harder for sperm cells to reach the uterus. It also prevents fertilized egg to attach to the wall of the uterus.

Ethinyl estradiol and desogestrel is essentially used for the prevention of pregnancy, but may also be used for a number of other purposes directed by a physician. Ethinyl estradiol and desogestrel may also be used for other purposes not listed in this medication guide.

Administration of Mircette

Ethinyl Estradiol and Desogestrel should be taken exactly as prescribed. You must not take amounts of this drug which are larger than prescribed for you. You would need to take the first pill on your period’s first day or the first Sunday after the start of your period, following the instructions of your doctor. As you start using this contraceptive, you may need to make use of a back-up form of birth control. Make sure that you would be following your doctor’s instructions.

Ethinyl Estradiol and Desogestrel comes in a 28-day pack that has seven "reminder" pills so that you would be able to maintain your regular cycle. As you take these “reminder” pills, your period would usually begin. You may also possibly experience breakthrough bleeding, particularly in the first 3 months. Make sure to let your doctor know if this bleeding persists or becomes heavier. Be sure to take a pill daily and not more than 24 hours apart. Once the pills run out, make sure to start a fresh pack the next day. If you do not take this medication regularly, there is a possibility that you could get pregnant. Make sure that your prescription would be refilled before your pills completely run out. Keep in mind that if you would be on bed rest for some time or if you would need to undergo surgery or medical tests, you might need to stop taking these pills. Make sure that you would be informing any surgeon or doctor who would be treating you that you are taking birth control pills. While using this medication, you may be advised by your doctor to come in for regular consultations. Make sure that you would not be missing any appointments.

Missing a Dose of Mircette

If you miss a dose of this drug, the risk of becoming pregnant is, of course, heightened. Make sure that you would be following the directions that are specified on the additional patient information leaflet which is included with the medication or you could also consult with your doctor for further instructions.

If you missed an active pill, you would need to take two pills on that day that you remember and then you could continue taking a pill a day for the remainder of the pack.

If you missed two consecutive active pills in the first or second week, you would need to take two pills a day for two consecutive days and then you could continue taking a pill a day for the remainder of the pack. Make sure that you would be using some form of additional birth control method for a week following the missed pills.

If you missed two consecutive active pills in the third or fourth week or if you missed three consecutive active pills, you could just altogether throw out the entire pack and then just start a new pack on that same if you started on Day 1. If you started on a Sunday, you could just keep taking a pill a day until Sunday. And then on Sunday, you could throw out the entire pack and then just start a new pack on that day.

If you missed three consecutive active pills in the first, second or third week, you could throw out the remainder of the pack and then just start a new one on that day if you started on Day 1. However, if you started on a Sunday, take a pill daily until Sunday and then when Sunday comes, you could throw out the remainder of the pack and then start a new pack on that day.

If you missed two or more pills, you might not have your period on that month. Now, if you missed your period for two consecutive months, contact your doctor as you may be pregnant. If you missed any of the reminder pills, you could just throw them out and then keep taking a pill a day until you finish the pack. There is no need for back-up birth control if it was the reminder pills that you missed.
