Indications For Ketoconazole
The drug Ketoconazole is essentially used for the treatment of fungal infections. This drug can also be used for the treatment of other conditions as prescribed by a doctor.
Ketoconazole is considered an azole antifungal. This substance eradicates sensitive fungi through the interference in the formation of fungal cell membrane.
When Not To Use Ketoconazole
Ketoconazole should not be used: if the patient is allergic to an ingredient found in Ketoconazole or if the patient is taking any type of aldosterone blockers.
Administration of Ketoconazole
Take Ketoconazole as instructed by the physician. Make sure that the drug dosage instructions are read and followed. Ketoconazole may be administered orally, with or without food. Additionally, an antacid should not be taken an hour prior or two hours following your use of Ketoconazole.
The drug must be taken during the full course of the treatment in order to completely clear up the infection. The drug should also be continually used even if the symptoms subside after a couple of days. This drug is more effective if it is taken during the same time of the day.
In the case of a missed dose of Ketoconazole, it could be taken as soon as remembered. However, if it is already the time for the next dose, the skipped dose can be overlooked altogether. Never combine two doses of Ketoconazole at any time.
Side Effects of Ketoconazole
While all medicines may result to serious side effects, there are few incidence of people getting afflicted with side effects. Seek medical attention immediately in case any of the following common side effects occur or continue to bother you: stomach pain or nausea.
Immediate medical attention should also be sought in case any of the following severe side effects are experienced: severe allergic reactions such as hives; rash; difficulty in breathing; itching; swelling of the mouth, lips, face, or tongue; dark urine, bloating; decreased sexual interest and ability; irregular heartbeat; depression; fever, persistent sore throat or chills; pale stools; persistent cases of stomach pain and nausea; thoughts of suicide; swollen or tender abdomen; unusual fatigue or tiredness; unusual bleeding or bruising; changes in vision, vomiting; and yellowing of the eyes and the skin.
