Indications of Ciprofloxacin
Ciprofloxacin is generally used for the treatment of bacterial infections. This drug may also be used for the prevention or the impediment of anthrax after exposure. A fluoroquinolone antibiotic, Ciprofloxacin works through killing sensitive bacteria.
Administration of Ciprofloxacin
Ciprofloxacin should be used as directed by your physician. Make sure that you would also be reading through the label for the correct dosage instructions. To make sure that the infection would clear up completely, Ciprofloxacin must be used for the whole period of treatment. You would need to keep taking it even if your conditions improve in just a few days.
When taking Ciprofloxacin, it is recommended to drink additional fluids. Make sure to consult with your doctor for instructions. You can also ask your doctor or a health care provide on any other questions you may have with the use of this drug.
If a dose of Ciprofloxacin is missed, it should be taken immediately. If the next dose schedule is up, the missed dose could just be completely skipped to return back to the regular dose schedule. Two doses of Ciprofloxacin must never be taken at one time.
Important Safety Information For Ciprofloxacin
Ciprofloxacin could cause lightheadedness or dizziness. These effects could worsen if you would be taking the drug with certain other medicines or with alcohol. Make sure to always use Ciprofloxacin with extreme caution. Also, driving or doing any other potentially unsafe tasks would not be advisable up until you already know how you would be reacting to the drug.
Inform your doctor or your dentist that you are taking Ciprofloxacin before receiving any form of medical or dental care, as well as any surgery or emergency care.
Make sure that you would be taking Ciprofloxacin for the entire duration of the treatment to ensure that the infection would completely clear up. If this is not done, the bacteria may possibly become less sensitive to this drug as well as to other drugs and make the infection harder to treat eventually.
Using Ciprofloxacin for long periods or repeatedly may also cause a second infection. Inform your physician if you begin experiencing any signs of a second infection. The medication that you are taking may have to be changed.
Keep in mind that Ciprofloxacin would only work against bacteria and does not have the capability of treating viral infections like the flu or the common cold.
While taking Ciprofloxacin, you would also need to avoid consuming large amounts of food that have caffeine in them like tea, coffee, chocolate, cola and cocoa. Make sure to rest often and avoid any form of exercise until you get further instructions from your doctor and if you begin experiencing any swelling or pain of a tendon.
